Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatyy reviewed on Saturday 24/8/2024 serious steps taken by Egypt to reinforce reliance on the Artificial Intelligence (AI), namely the establishment of the National Council for Artificial Intelligence (NCAI) in 2019 and launching the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy two years later, in 2021.

The foreign minister made the remarks during a meeting with Rector of the United Nations University (UNU) in Tokyo, Japan, and Under-Secretary-General of the UN Tshilidzi Marwala during his visit to the Japanese capital to participate in a ministerial meeting of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).

Abdelatty said that Egypt is looking forward to promoting cooperation with the UNU in Tokyo and linking it to Egyptian research centers and universities, in addition to providing scholarships for Egyptian students, according to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

Egypt is looking forward to introducing cooperation mechanisms between the UN and the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E- JUST), which is one of top Egyptian universities, Abdelatty said.

He expressed Egypt’s desire to host one of the branches of the UNU on its soil, adding that Cairo has a large number of UN regional offices with extensive experience in all fields related to the work of the UN, the spokesman said.
