Egypt's agriculture exports surpasses 5.6M tons in 2024

In the period spanning January to August 2024, Egypt saw a surge in its agricultural exports, surpassing 5.6 million tons, as per a report assessed by Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk.

 

Citrus fruits constituted a substantial portion of these exports, totaling 2,077,386 tons. Fresh potatoes followed closely behind, with 957,481 tons shipped overseas, securing the second position in agricultural exports after citrus fruits.

 

The export figures further revealed that onions accounted for 236,907 tons, claiming the third spot, while grapes and beans held the fourth and fifth positions with 164,430 tons and 156,644 tons, respectively.

 

Additionally, potatoes ranked sixth with 89,710 tons, and mangoes took the seventh spot with 37,038 tons. Egypt's tomato exports stood at 36,876 tons, securing the eighth position, with garlic exports following at the ninth spot with 21,965 tons.

 

Strawberries claimed the tenth position with 21,295 tons, guava at the eleventh with 10,427 tons, and pomegranates concluded the list with 9,799 tons in exports.

 

In a related development, Egypt observed a reduction in its trade deficit in April 2024, marking a 2.5% decrease to $2.68 billion compared to the previous year. Data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) indicated a slight uptick in Egyptian exports for the same period, rising by 0.8% to $3.29 billion from $3.26 billion in April 2023.
