The Egyptian mango season is drawing to a close. The season has been marked by abundant production, but demand is keeping pace, especially in summer, according to Mahmod Allam, CEO of Citrus Agro.

According to industry sources, Egypt has produced a lot of mangoes this year. The volume exceeds two million tons, on an acreage of over 100 thousand hectares. Mangoes come after citrus in the podium of fruit exports per volume this year, FreshPlaza notes.

Allam says, “The volume is large, but the destinations for Egyptian mangoes are numerous and diversified. We see strong demand in Europe, especially from Rotterdam. Russia is pulling large volumes and we’re seeing a lot of interest in Egyptian mangoes from Russian supermarkets. The summer period has also brought very strong demand from the Gulf countries.”

Many Egyptian exporters have complained this season about insufficient prices due to the abundance of production, but Allam says, “On our part, we don’t see any difference compared to the previous season, and prices are at the same level. We even expect prices to rise, especially for the Russian and Gulf markets as the season draws to a close.”

Allam concludes, “Demand is constantly increasing, and it’s not long before the end of the season. So there will be a lot of export activity and more volumes starting next month.”
