The Egyptian state seeks to establish the country as a regional center for trading and exporting gas and energy in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

This is part of the Egyptian government's strategy to maximize the benefit from the country's natural resources and enhance its position in the global energy market.

Over the past years, Egypt concluded cooperation agreements with neighboring countries such as Cyprus and Greece to exchange and export gas, and has established the East Mediterranean Gas Forum, which aims to enhance cooperation in the field of natural gas among member states.

In this regard, the program of Dr. Mostafa Madbouly's government, which lasts for 3 years (2024-2027), includes completing work on a number of targets, namely:

1- Enhancing energy storage and export capabilities.

2- Accelerating the pace of work on existing electrical interconnection projects, especially with Cyprus, Greece and Italy, and engaging in similar new projects, while enhancing the interconnection capabilities of electrical interconnection projects with Arab countries such as Saudi Arabia.

3- Expanding the membership of the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Countries Organization to include more European Union countries.

4- Working to enhance Egyptian exports of low-carbon hydrogen and its derivatives to the global market, while maximizing the benefit from Egypt's position as a major global supplier of fertilizers.

5- Good international promotion of Egypt's energy capabilities, including its ability to own liquefaction stations, refineries, pipelines and ports, as well as promoting its strategic location.

6- Attracting international investments in the energy sector, by offering gas and oil exploration and research areas in the Mediterranean at international economic conferences and forums.

7- Updating and developing gas liquefaction stations in Egypt (Idku and Damietta), in order to liquefy gas coming from surrounding countries and re-export it to Europe.
