SCZone witnesses $30M groundbreaking ceremony for Chemtics Egypt Chemicals project
Walid Gamal El-Din, the Chairman of the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), led the groundbreaking ceremony for the Chemtics Egypt Chemicals project within the Sokhna integrated industrial zone, a key component of the Teda – Egypt industrial development initiative. This project, covering 60,000 square meters and backed by a $30 million investment, is set to produce more than 40,000 tons of calcium hypochlorite annually.
The Chemtics project unfolds in two phases, with the first phase scheduled for completion and the start of production by May 1, 2025. El-Din underscored the project's importance in strengthening both SCZONE's reputation and Chinese investments, which have already attracted over 160 companies, amounting to $2 billion in investments and creating around 50,000 job opportunities.
Recent promotional efforts in China resulted in agreements for six new initiatives, with investments exceeding $1.067 billion across 1.2 million square meters.
These initiatives will focus on energy production, glassworks, bromine, chlor-alkali, and other sectors that complement the Chemtics project, signaling a significant shift in the production of fine chemical products.
These developments align with Egypt's industrial localization strategy, with SCZONE envisioning the Chemtics Egypt Chemicals project as the primary hub for calcium hypochlorite production in Egypt and Africa.
