The train will be available for free to all Sinai residents, starting on Saturday – rides after will then with a reduced ticket compared to other means of transportation.
The Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel al-Wazir, participated with the people of Sinai on Monday in celebrating the launch of the trial operation of the new development train in Sinai.
It arrived at the 100 km long al-Ferdan/Bir al-Abd railway line, coinciding with the Egyptian people’s celebrations of the 51st anniversary of the 6th of October war victory.
North Sinai Governor Khaled Megawer said that the train’s entry into North Sinai is a historical moment, as “we celebrate the presence of the train on Sinai soil after an absence of 57 years.”
The Transport Ministry has completed the renovation, rehabilitation and restoration of the efficiency of the train stations as a first phase of the project to rehabilitate, develop and establish al-Ferdan/East Port Said/Bir al-Abd/ Arish/Taba railway line with a total length of 500 km.
This line is one of the main components of the Arish/Taba logistics corridor, which will aid in achieving comprehensive development in Sinai Peninsula.
