The NTRA and Telecom Egypt also signed the specifications for launching 5G services.

The agreement follows a $150 million similar agreement signed in January between NTRA and Telecom Egypt, reaching a total of $675 million for the four companies, according to a statement published by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

This initiative not only covers the operation of 5G services but also includes the renewal of previous-generation licenses, all valid for the next 15 years.

During the signing ceremony, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat stressed the transformative impact that 5G technology will have on the national economy, improving Egypt’s ranking in international indicators in the communications and information technology sector.

Talaat also emphasized that 5G technologies will significantly affect digital transformation, as 5G networks offer ultra-fast speeds that will bolster the transformation process in Egypt.

With the signing of the licenses, all mobile companies in Egypt are now authorized to run 5G networks, marking a significant step towards advancing the country's telecommunications infrastructure.

It also aligns with the Egyptian government's initiatives to offer cutting-edge telecommunications services that cater to the needs of various sectors, including individuals and businesses, while fostering investment in the telecommunications industry and encouraging open competition among companies.

According to the official website of Cisco, a global company in communication solutions, 5G technology is designed to increase speed, providing a maximum data transfer speed of up to 20 Gbps, which is way better than the maximum speed offered by 4G technology at only about 1 Gbps.
