Egypt, EU launch €7M green facility to support green transition
During Cairo Water Week, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Rania Al-Mashat, and EU Ambassador, Christian Berger, signed the €7 million European Green Facility initiative. This initiative aims to advance Egypt’s green transformation in alignment with the country's development goals.
The program provides comprehensive technical support to help Egypt strengthen sector strategies, improve water governance, and foster collaboration between public and private sectors.
This partnership follows the March announcement of an upgraded strategic relationship between Egypt and the European Union during the European Commission President’s visit. A political declaration was signed with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, accompanied by a €7.4 billion funding package to support development and joint investments, with a focus on green initiatives.
Key cooperation areas include technical support for Egypt’s National Green Hydrogen Strategy and the enhancement of renewable energy projects through the NWFE program.
