Egypt denies requesting larger IMF loan tranche
In a statement issued Tuesday, CBE Governor Hassan Abdallah, who represents Egypt at the IMF, clarified that claims of raising the next disbursement to $2 billion are inaccurate.
The IMF is currently conducting its fourth review of Egypt's economic reform program, in preparation for disbursing a new installment of $1.3 billion.
This disbursement is subject to approval by the IMF's Executive Board.
The IMF’s support for Egypt's economic reform program includes a total loan of $8 billion – to be disbursed in installments through the end of the program in September 2026.
This year, Egypt received approximately $1.64 billion from the IMF loan, divided into two installments.
The first was disbursed in April, following two reviews postponed from March and September 2024.
The second was received in August after the third review.
Additionally, Egypt received an initial $347 million when the IMF approved the loan in December 2022.
