Toyota Tsusho-led group to expand wind park in Egypt to 654 MW
Japanese trading company Toyota Tsusho Corp (TYO:8015) announced today that the group behind the under-construction Gulf of Suez Wind Farm II project in Egypt has decided to expand the facility by adding 150 MW to the initially planned installed capacity.
As a result, the new wind park, located in the Gulf of El Zayt along the 262.5-MW Gulf of Suez Wind Farm I, will have a total installed capacity of 654 MW upon completion, rather than 504 MW. Accordingly, the total investment will rise by USD 130 million to USD 790 million (EUR 748.6m).
Commercial operation is scheduled for August 2025. The generated electricity will be supplied to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
Gulf of Suez Wind Farm II is owned by the Toyota Tsusho Group (40%), Engie SA (35%), and Orascom Construction Plc (25%).
The 150-MW expansion will include 20 wind turbines with an individual capacity of 7.5 MW, which would make Gulf of Suez Wind Farm II the largest in Africa, Toyota Tsusho pointed out.
