Egypt occupies 58% of MENA's $7.2 bln e-sports industry
Elbassiouny added that the country boasted around 40 million gamers, including seven million e-sports competitors. He also asserted that these figures underscore the region's vital role in the global gaming and e-sports landscape.
His remarks came during a press conference on Monday to announce the launch of the GAMERGY inaugural festival in Egypt, which will take place from 30 January to 1 February 2025.
Key figures like Ahmed Abdel Khaleq, general manager of Tourism and Sports Events at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and Sherif Abdel Baki, president of the Egyptian E-Sports Federation, attended the press conference.
The event is one of the largest e-sports and gaming festivals globally and represents a strategic move to position Egypt at the forefront of the international e-sports scene.
E-Sports industry's boom in Egypt
The e-sports industry in Egypt has boomed over the past few years. According to Statista, its revenues are expected to hit $4.6 million in 2024 and have a projected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 9.4 percent by 2029.
This brings an anticipated market volume of $7.2 million by 2029.
What is GAMERGY?
GAMERGY is a pioneering e-sports event tailored for video game fans of all ages and backgrounds.

The event will also include live shows, competitions, and opportunities for attendees to meet renowned local and international content creators.
Egypt as regional hub for e-sports
With the global gaming industry projected to reach $221 billion by the end of 2024 and Egypt accounting for 58 percent of the MENA region's gaming market, the festival underscores the country's potential as a regional hub for e-sports.
Abdel Khaleq emphasized the importance of such events in boosting Egypt’s global standing in e-sports, highlighting their role in fostering community engagement and economic growth.
Meanwhile, MENATech Entertainment CEO Mario Perez Guerreira expressed excitement about GAMERGY Egypt as an immersive entertainment and innovation platform.
The festival will also feature e-sports influencer Marwan Serry as its official ambassador. Additionally, it will hold daily concerts, panel discussions with industry experts, and cosplay competitions to ensure a vibrant experience for all attendees.
