Egypt seeks to reclaim 4 million feddans to enhance food security
The Egyptian government is striving to reclaim 4 million feddans by (2025-2026), with the aim of attaining self-sufficiency and strengthening its position as a major supporter of food security in the region, said Spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture Mohamed el Qarsh.
In a phone-in interview with "Sabah Al Balad" program, aired on Sada El Balad channel, El Qarsh said that the appropriate locations for these lands have been identified, and the implementation of a number of projects has begun.
Intensive work is underway to reclaim and cultivate these areas, he further said.
The Ministry of Agriculture is working to provide self-sufficiency for all agricultural goods and products, and has achieved remarkable progress in this regard, he added.
There are plans to expand cotton production and focus on manufacturing processes to maximize the benefit from local cotton and export it to increase the marketing value, he further said.
