Egypt targets 30 million tourists by 2030
At the beginning of the meeting, Madbouly highlighted the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, which include a comprehensive vision for the development of the aviation sector to enhance the Egyptian airport system, increase its capacity and improve the level of services provided to travelers.
In line with the President’s directives, the Terminal 4 development at Cairo International Airport aims to achieve the state’s tourism objectives which include raising the number of tourists to 30 million by 2030.
Despite ongoing regional challenges, Egypt expects to have welcomed 15.3 million tourists in 2024, representing a 4 percent growth, according to Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy.
Terminal 4’s capacity to reach 40 million passengers
For his part, Hefni reviewed the target specifications for Terminal 4’s development at Cairo International Airport, which include the establishment of a passenger terminal with a capacity of no less than 30 million passengers per year. Hefni added that the terminal will have the potential for an additional 10 million passengers, which raises its capacity to 40 million passengers per year.
In September last year, the Cairo Airport Company signed two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with trade and travel technology company Pangiam to design and build Cairo International Airport’s new Terminal 4. The partnership included Pangiam carrying out a feasibility study that includes recommendations for using emerging technologies to enhance the airport’s existing infrastructure.
Terminal 4 will also include a new landing and take-off runway equipped with the latest navigation and ground lighting systems in line with developments in this field. The terminal will also feature large-capacity car parks fully covered with solar panels as well as efficient connection to the road network with smooth and fast access.
The development of Cairo International Airport’s Terminal 4 also encompasses support and operation buildings designed according to international standard specifications.
