US-based Commvault inaugurates global centre of excellence in Cairo
The company offers a cyber resilience platform that combines top-tier data security with rapid recovery capabilities.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Amr Talaat, Egypt's minister of communications and information technology, and Ahmed El-Zaher, CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), as well as Commvault executives, including CEO Sanjay Mirchandani, Chief Customer Officer Sarv Saravanan, and Vice President and General Manager for Emerging Markets Fady Richmany.
This centre is poised to provide solutions to the US market, as well as the Middle East and North Africa, to face increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. Recent research indicates that an average organization experiences eight cyber incidents annually, with four classified as major. Commvault's platform is designed to help businesses predict threats, recover efficiently, and respond quickly while maintaining the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO).
“The new CoE in Cairo underscores Commvault's commitment to enhancing customer service across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). By leveraging the region's multilingual and skilled workforce, the CoE aims to promptly address customer needs and support Commvault's global clientele,” the company’s CEO Sanjay Mirchandani told Ahram Online during the event.
He highlighted that the Egyptian market is a flourishing environment for this global centre, mainly due to skilled labour and low cost.
On his side, Minister Talaat underscored the government’s successful efforts to promote the outsourcing industry in Egypt, noting that the centre will create valuable job opportunities for Egyptian youth and facilitate the transfer of expertise in advanced cybersecurity solutions.
He also highlighted the ministry’s initiatives to cultivate cybersecurity talents through specialized programmes in collaboration with leading international universities to bridge the skills gap.
Egypt aims to become a global hub for outsourcing and technology innovation, with initiatives aimed at growing the industry, cultivating tech talent and digital skills, and boosting Egypt's competitiveness on the global stage. In this respect, the government plans to raise the outsourcing exports to $9 billion in 2026. ITIDA has also recently granted licenses to seven major companies working in this industry
Commvault's investment in this state-of-the-art facility further strengthens Egypt’s burgeoning ICT sector, which has seen its contribution to GDP rise from 3.2 percent to 5.8 percent in FY2023/2024.
Valuable add to Egypt’s IT sector
"Commvault’s new CoE is a key addition to Egypt’s thriving IT sector, creating high-value job opportunities in cyber resilience and data management. It showcases Egypt’s skilled workforce, attracting global companies to expand operations here. At ITIDA, we are committed to reinforcing Egypt’s position as a global IT hub by driving investment and supporting sustainable growth in the offshoring industry,” said ITIDA’s El-Zaher.
“We are proud to unveil our new CoE hub in Cairo, which brings us closer to our customers in key markets and strengthens our service capabilities. By leveraging the regional talent pool, we can enhance our industry-leading cyber resilience offerings for customers worldwide,” Saravanan noted.
Commvault’s Richmany affirmed that Egypt offers a dynamic and multicultural workforce, which is ideal for the company’s multilingual service operations. He added that this CoE enables Commvault to provide EMEA customers with the information and expertise essential for maintaining resilience, which is critical for continuous business operations.
