Egypt took the lead at African tourism in 2023 with 14.9 million foreign tourists, ahead of Morocco with 14.5 million and Tunisia with 9.4 million.

This increase has not only raised Egypt’s international standing, but also boosted its economy, generating more than £11.4 billion (US$14.1 billion) in tourism revenues, according to Breaking Travel News.

In 2024, the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI) ranked Egypt among the best countries in Africa with a score of 3.96, indicating the country’s growing attractiveness to international travelers.

The Egyptian visa process remains simple, as tourists must have a passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival.

Those visiting the resorts of Sharm el-Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba or Taba can get a free stamp upon arrival, while a robust online e-Visa system allows travelers to obtain a visa in advance, valid for up to three months.

Breaking Travel News explained that one of the main reasons to visit Egypt are its ancient wonders, such as the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx, which continue to attract millions of tourists.
