Egypt partners with Abu Dhabi Ports to develop Alexandria Port logistics area
Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, emphasized that the agreement aligns with the ministry's vision to establish Egypt as a regional hub for transport and logistics, according to a cabinet statement.
Minister El-Wazir noted that the area, covering 273 acres in its first phase and 600 acres in its second phase, will feature various industries, including maritime transport, complementary industries, and value-added industries.
Developing value-added industries would help the country achieve its export target of $145 billion by 2030 by enhancing the market value of raw materials or semi-finished products through manufacturing, refining, assembling, or packaging.
The deal would also introduce container manufacturing as a new industry in the country under its 2024-2027 plans for localizing industry, enhancing industrial capabilities, and boosting industrial competitiveness.
What to expect?
The revamped logistics area will host various activities, starting with storage operations, import/export handling, customs warehousing, and re-export services.
It will also feature packaging, simple manufacturing of agricultural products, small-scale light industries, and industries based on imported oils.
The zone will also include the production of empties, such as cardboard boxes, sacks, and 20-foot and 40-foot containers.
Quality control will ensure that imported and exported products meet global standards and are defect-free.
The logistics area will also feature an interchange station in the Ameriya area, linked to the national high-speed electric rail network and the (Manashi-Ittihad-Kobari) railway line.
The Alexandria Port logistics zone is a vital component of the integrated Ain Sokhna-Alexandria International Logistics Corridor.
It ensures maximum operational efficiency for this corridor, supporting the state’s strategy to become a regional hub for transport, logistics, and transit trade while transforming Egypt into an industrial hub for the region.
