Egyptian Chairman of the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA), Dr Tareq el-Houby, met with representatives of the European Commission Office in Cairo presided by Mr Nikolaos Zaimes to discuss a number of topics of mutual interest.

El-Houby expressed his pleasure at the recent successes of NFSA in reopening  fish exports to EU countries after a three-year hiatus.

They discussed the mechanism for the first shipments of marine fish as well as the challenges facing the export process with appropriate solutions for them.

Also, they reviewed the possibilities of providing technical support by the European Commission to open European markets to Egyptian fish exports.

The meeting also addressed the possibilities of reopening European markets to dairy products of European origin.

Zaimes commended the success of NFSA in completing the recent technical inspection to assess the regulatory regime for the control of microbiological contaminants on frozen strawberries and medical and aromatic plants exported to the EU from November 5-26, 2024.

No recommendations have been received, which confirms the strength and confidence in Egypt’s regulatory system in this vital sector, NFSA said.
