Egypt aims to produce nearly 16.1 GW from solar and wind projects in 2029 as part of a drive to reduce reliance on conventional power generation and save its hydrocarbon resources, according to press reports Wednesday, as reported by Zawya. At the moment, the country produces around 6.6 GW from solar, wind and water projects and new projects would sharply lift output.

It is expected that most of the increase in the next few years will come from solar power projects, set to add approximately 5.8 GW. Together with wind projects, the country’s total renewable energy production could be boosted to nearly 16.1 GW by 2029. Egypt, which is the most populated Arab nation, has set a target to expand the share of renewable energy to 42% by 2030 and 60% by 2040.
