Luxor named ‘First World Capital of Culture, History and Heritage’

The African-Asian Union (AFASU) has named Luxor city as the “First World Capital of Culture, History and Heritage”.

The award came after the final selection and competition with Kyoto, Japan, where Luxor city won unanimously by the Supreme International Committee of AFASU Golden Awards, which consists of 42 members and representatives from all international and global institutions.


This award comes in recognition of Luxor’s global status as an icon of culture and civilization.


The President of AFASU Hossam Mohamed Darwish explained that this award is one of the leading awards presented by the union to honor cities that have an exceptional historical and cultural legacy.


The award is given to the city has distinguished its efforts in preserving heritage, developing culture and promoting sustainable tourism.


Luxor Governor Abdel-Mottaleb Emara expressed his pride at Luxor receiving this award, stressing that the great cultural heritage of the city requires preservation and continuous development.


He pledged to achieve sustainable development in the city, befitting its status as one of the main tourist destinations in the world.
