Egypt sent on Sunday, October 12, 2025, its largest-ever humanitarian aid convoy to the Gaza Strip following the new ceasefire agreement, with 400 trucks carrying 9,000 tons of food, medical supplies, fuel, and relief materials moving from the Egyptian side of Rafah crossing toward the Karm Abu Salem and Al-Ouja crossings.

According to Al-Qahera News and the Palestinian News Network (PNN), the convoy began moving early Sunday morning around 6am local time, marking the first large-scale delivery of aid since the Gaza ceasefire took effect on Friday.

Egyptian and Palestinian officials said the trucks carry essential supplies aimed at restoring basic services and providing relief to hundreds of thousands of displaced residents across the strip.

PNN reported that 90 trucks crossed the Egyptian side of Rafah crossing within the first hour, heading toward Karm Abu Salem and Al-Ouja crossings, which reopened for humanitarian use for the first time since March.

Egyptian sources said the convoy is part of a broader plan to deliver up to 400 trucks of aid daily under a new multi-crossing arrangement involving five border points from Egypt and Jordan, designed to speed up deliveries under international supervision.

On Friday, the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) dispatched its 48th aid convoy to Gaza, under the Zad Al-Izza: From Egypt to Gaza initiative, carrying about 1,600 tons of urgent humanitarian aid to the strip.

In addition, the Egyptian Committee, which provides relief services to the people of Gaza, sent 100 trucks on Saturday to help transport displaced Palestinians and their belongings back to northern Gaza via the Al-Rashid coastal road, prioritizing the elderly, women, and children.

Egypt has remained at the forefront of the international humanitarian response since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023, delivering over 570,000 tons of aid, roughly 70 percent of all assistance that has reached the territory.

The massive convoy comes as global aid agencies prepare to scale up humanitarian supplies to Gaza following the ceasefire agreement.

UN agencies and partner organizations have pre-positioned supplies in Egypt’s North Sinai and Jordan’s Ma’an governorate in anticipation of expanded access.

The United Nations, World Food Programme (WFP), and UNRWA confirmed plans to reach up to 600 trucks per day entering Gaza within days, provided border inspections proceed smoothly.

Reuters earlier reported that Egyptian engineering units have begun clearing debris inside Gaza to reopen key routes such as Salah Al-Din and Al-Rashid roads for relief convoys.

Humanitarian organizations see Sunday’s convoy as a key test of the ceasefire’s stability and of all parties’ ability to maintain uninterrupted access for life-saving assistance.

Aid agencies have repeatedly warned that Gaza’s infrastructure, health system, and food supply chains are on the verge of collapse after months of blockade and bombardment.
