Zhone Technologies Secures TE Data Deployment of MXK(TM)
Zhone Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZHNE), a global pioneer in network access solutions, announced today that its industry-leading MXK(TM) system will serve as the core enabler of TE Data's deployment of its Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) solution in Egypt, in coordination with Zhone's partner in Egypt, Salec Egypt S.A.E. TE Data is Egypt's largest IP-based data communications carrier; the company has added EFM to its suite of managed services to complement existing service offerings and to satisfy customer demand for cost-effective high-speed connectivity.
TE Data is looking to deliver reliable, high speed internet access for its enterprise customers over existing copper lines. Zhone's EFM solution is the right fit, and TE Data began integrating Zhone's MXK terabit access platform into its network in August 2011.
"Zhone's EFM solutions give us a centralized platform with extensive reach, along with a high level of flexibility in both our service and system configuration options," stated Ismail Saeed, operation director of TE Data. "With these advanced capabilities, we are now able to efficiently deliver the high-quality advanced services that our customers expect, without fear of inflated costs or operational issues. The Zhone portfolio of products helps us extend our reach with our customers, and gives us the option of adopting technologies such as GPON and Active Ethernet, as demand dictates."
"EFM facilitates significant scalability at a very competitive price point for our customers," noted Brian Caskey, chief marketing officer of Zhone. "As customer demand changes, driven by new applications and an ever-changing business environment, the Zhone solution enables service providers to quickly and confidently add bandwidth to meet customer needs. This reality is reflected in this deployment with TE Data, as well as other recent EFM deployments with Novosco and Colba.Net."
Tamer Gadallah, managing director of TE Data stated, "This technology will create a quantum leap in connecting large scale companies and economic organizations with TE Data's network; allowing the usage of sophisticated applications without the need for high speed data transmission or optical fiber cables that require long installation time."
Gadallah added that Zhone will be providing the necessary devices, whereas Salec will carry out the installations and maintenance. As for TE Data, it will be responsible for providing the actual service and technical consultancy while monitoring the service level to prevent any malfunctions and minimize service disruptions.
"We are proud to work with Zhone on another successful EFM deployment, this time with TE Data," said Mahmoud Soliman, chief executive officer of Salec. "Our ongoing partnership with Zhone enables us to collaborate on significant rollouts, ensuring complete integration in an efficient manner for our collective customers."
To date, Zhone has deployed more than 3,000 of its fully redundant, carrier-grade all-IP MXK platforms with more than 150 service providers globally, signaling an FTTx customer growth rate of more than 450 percent in the three-year period from January 2009 to January 2012. Total subscriber capacity supported by these deployments now exceeds 20 million. Featuring industry-leading density, scalability and switching capacity, the MXK is the industry's first terabit access concentrator and provides non-blocking capacity of up to 3,600 100 Mbps GPON subscribers or 360 1G Active Ethernet subscribers. Zhone has also driven more than 8,500 percent ONT growth and more than 9,800 percent OLT growth since solution inception.
