Egypt youth most concerned nation about unemployment in MENA

71% of young Egyptians believe that people of this generation are more likely to start a business than in previous generations.

The Arab Youth Survey 2014 by ASDA’A Burson-Marsteller is the most comprehensive of its kind covering the six Gulf Cooperation Council states (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE), Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia and Yemen. The survey did not include Syria due to the civil unrest in the country.


43% of young Egyptians believed that traditional values are outdated and belong in the past, being keen to embrace modern values and values, as opposed to the 57% to which traditional values mean a lot, joined by the belief that they ought to be preserved for generations to come.


61% of young Egyptians are concerned about living costs, same as Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Yemen and Palestine.


Egyptian youth is most concerned nation about unemployment in the Arab World (62%), as 24.8% of youth between 15 and 24 years old are unemployed.


70% of young Egyptians believe that energy, electricity and transport fuel such as gasoline and diesel should be subsidized by the government.


There were 200 respondents for each country represented in the survey, except for the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt with 300 respondents each, and Iraq with 250 and Palestine with 150.
