41.4% decrease in foreigners working in Egypt’s government sector: CAPMAS

Number of foreign workers in any facility and its branches is not permitted to exceed 10% of employee total.

The number of foreign workers in the public sector and government IPOs reached 560 foreigners during 2014, according to a Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) press statement.

The CAPMAS figures illustrate this is in comparison to 956 foreigners during 2013, and marks a decrease rate of 41.4%.

The decrease is due to the conditions experienced by the country after the 30 June Revolution, especially in the petroleum sector, CAPMAS added.

European countries represent the largest number of total foreigners working in the public sector, which reached 250 by 44.6% during 2014. Asian countries (non-Arab) comes in second place, reaching 124 with a rate of 22.1%, while numbers of foreigners from Oceania countries (Australia, New Guinea and New Zealand) reached only 18 foreigners (3.2%), according to the statement.

“The foreign workers of public bodies represent the largest number reaching 293 foreigners with the rate of 52.3% of the total number of foreign workers in the public sector and government IPOs in 2014, most of them work in ERTU (Egyptian Radio & TV Union) and the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA),” the statement read. “165 foreigners work in the public sector and IPOs with a rate of 29.5% (mostly work in Metallurgical Industries Company).”
