45 Worn-out cars, motorcycles lifted from streets during traffic campaigns
The Egyptian General Traffic Department removed 45 abandoned and worn-out cars and motorcycles from the streets of Cairo, and Giza within 24 hours.
During the week, the campaigns resulted in removing 295 cars and 48 motorcycles, and seizing 4,583 violations of not wearing a helmet.
This came after Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi called on the government to end the abandoned vehicles phenomenon in various cities, and to clear car graveyards.
The official spokesman for the Presidency Bassam Rady stated that the meeting dealt with following up on the state’s efforts to restore the civilized face of neighborhoods and cities, as President Sisi directed the concerned authorities to end the occupation of roads with abandoned cars in various cities and neighborhoods, whose accumulation leads to street congestion.
The president also called for the liquidation of car graves, and the classification of what can be reused or referred to scrapping, in integration with the state's efforts in the field of developing roads and axes.
In this regard, the Egyptian President also directed that all ministries and government agencies make an inventory of the vehicles they have, and review their validity, while getting rid of unusable cars.
