Egypt received its first shipment of mazut

Egypt received the first shipments of imported mazut for the benefit of electric power stations. The 35,000-ton shipment has helped the government to slow down on power cuts, according to The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy sources, local media reported.

The shipment is the first of the government’s planned imports of Mazut to meet the increasing demand for electricity.

Last week, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly made a televised announcement of a government decision to import additional shipments of mazut for the coming period to achieve balance in the electricity network.

Madbouly announced that Egypt will have a volume of mazut imports until the end of August that costs $250 to $300 million. This comes as part of a group of measures aimed at ending the power crisis. These measures include planned power cuts to cut down on energy consumption, and allowing government employees who do not deal directly with the public to begin working remotely every Sunday for a month starting August 8.
