Inhabited Land in Egypt Has Doubled Since 2014
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Communities revealed that the inhabited lands in Egypt now constitute 13.7% of the country's total area, a significant increase from the 7% reported in 2014.
According to the ministry, Egypt's urbanism rate has reached 48.5%, which can indicate an improved quality of life and economic development. This growth also reflects increased investment in newly developed areas. Between 2020 and 2023, Egypt sold 80,000 acres of land worth EGP 6.5 billion, a significant increase compared to the 5,000 acres sold in 2014.
The Egyptian government is undertaking the construction of 24 new fourth-generation cities throughout the country, which will provide housing for approximately 32 million people. Furthermore, plans are underway to build an additional 14 cities.
The ministry highlighted the substantial investment of EGP 1.3 trillion in cities from 2014 to 2023, with 75% of these funds allocated to the construction and development of fourth-generation cities, while 25% has been dedicated to enhancing the efficiency of existing cities.
