Huawei hosts conference on Egypt's digital energy transformation
Titled ‘Accelerating Digital Transformation in Egypt's Energy Sector’, the event was held under the auspice of the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker.
The conference focused on means of boosting reliable, efficient infrastructure amid challenging situations, including transmission losses and frequent outages.
A host of officials from the electricity ministry, representatives from Huwaei, and energy and technology experts attended the event.
Minister Shaker thanked Huawei for its efforts in networks, smart cities and green solutions, noting that the Egyptian government is pushing toward building a digital society under the state Vision 2030.
The minister highlighted the government’s digitalization efforts, which he said require promoting infrastructure and improving digital services in governmental bodies.
Colin Hu, President of Enterprise & Cloud of Huawei Northern Africa, praised the achievements made by Egypt in the past 23 years in the power sector.
Egypt is taking serious steps towards digital transformation and decarbonization.
Over the past year, the country signed many MoUs with various international entities to attract foreign investment in green hydrogen and to become a hub for hydrogen production.
The country inked 29 agreements with foreign businesses, including IBM, Amazon, Microsoft, and Dell Technologies, in December 2022 to establish outsourcing centres there.
The deals were projected to increase Egypt's digital exports by $1 billion by 2025 and generate more than 34,000 jobs.
