Egypt’s unemployment falls from 13 percent to 6.9 percent in 10 years

Egypt’s Ministry of Manpower and Immigration issued a report on Tuesday on the most prominent labor issues that received attention and guidance from President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi from 2014 to 2024.

The report said that unemployment declined from 13 percent in 2014 to 6.9 percent in 2024, due to giant national projects that provide millions of job opportunities in all fields, and also absorbed large numbers of irregular workers and integrated them into the labor market after officially being registered with the Ministry of Labor.

There are 28,298 irregular workers now working in New Alamein City, and 65,261 workers in the New Administrative Capital, the ministry said.

The ministry said in its report that, during that period, it contributed with national partner agencies to reducing the unemployment rate, and that it was providing employment opportunities at home and abroad through the national job bulletin released every 15 days, and employment forums in coordination with private sector companies.

The ministry has employed more than seven million youth at home and abroad, through its various tools and mechanisms for employment in coordination with the private sector, and based on the database of permits granted to Egyptian workers abroad.
