The CIB also appointed Neveen Sabbour as Non-Executive Chair, making her the first woman to serve in this position in the bank.

Ezz Al-Arab has served as the CIB's Non-Executive Chair since March 2023.

Hisham Ezz Al-Arab served as CEO of the CIB from 1999 to 2020.

In October 2020, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) dismissed Ezz Al-Arab from his roles as Chairman and managing director of CIB over what was described as “violations of the Central Bank’s laws, decisions, and norms.”

In 2016, Ezz Al-Arab was recognised by Euromoney for his “Outstanding Contribution to Financial Services in the Middle East” and was EMEA Finance’s “Best CEO in Egypt and Africa” at the magazine’s 2014 Banking Awards.

In July 2017, the CIB was named the World's Best Bank in the Emerging Markets by Euromoney at the Global Awards for Excellence ceremony. It was the first time for a bank from Egypt, Africa or the Middle East to win this award.

"Under his leadership, CIB transformed from a wholesale lender into Egypt’s largest private sector bank and established a prominent international brand," read the bank statement on Sunday.
