Manufacturing and extractive industries index slips in August

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) released preliminary data on the manufacturing and extractive industries index for August 2024 on Thursday.


The index, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, registered at 111.44, a slight decrease of 0.01 percent from July's final figure of 111.45.


The beverage manufacturing sector saw a significant surge, with the index climbing to 518.87 in August, up 38.18 percent from July's 375.50. This increase is attributed to rising market demands.


The printing and reproduction of recorded media sector also experienced growth, reaching an index of 122.90 in August, a 6.63 percent increase from July's 115.26.


The manufacture of food products dipped to 134.87, down 4.6 percent from July's 141.40. Similarly, the manufacture of electrical equipment fell to 83.36, marking a 10.78 percent decrease from the previous month’s 93.43.
