Egypt receives fast missile navy vessels from US
The United States has delivered two fast missile naval vessels to Egypt, the U.S. embassy said.
“The Fast Missile Craft directly supports maritime and regional security, which includes protecting vital waterways such as the Suez Canal and the Red Sea,” U.S. embassy senior defense official in Cairo Major General Charles Hooper said in a statement. “This delivery is a sign of America’s ongoing commitment to Egypt and to our shared security interests in Egypt and the region.”
According to the statement, the two vessels were delivered to the port of Alexandria on June 17.
The embassy said that the new deliveries will double Egypt’s total fleet of fast missile craft to four vessels.
The U.S. had suspended its annual military aid to Egypt soon after the army ousted President Mohamed Morsi in 2013 coup, but resumed it earlier this year.
